All the ministries at St James' Church are financed through the generosity of its members.
Contrary to popular opinion the Church of England does not pay for the running of our church, we do.  As part of our giving we are required to pay what is called "share"  this is a sum of money that is paid to the Diocese anually to pay for the salaries of our clergy and their pensions.
On top of this we have to pay for the running of our church and to provide for the salaries of our employees.

Currently 43% of our members do not currently pledge; that is making a commitment to a regular monthly payment by way of a standing order.

If you would like to give to St James there are several ways to do so:
Our preferred method is The Parish Giving Scheme (PGS)
The Parish Giving Scheme (PGS) is a direct-debit system originally developed by the Diocese of Gloucester to provide a professional, effective donation management system to support parishes in funding their mission and ministry.

The Parish Giving Scheme has attracted considerable interest from around the Church and has been adopted as the preferred way of giving by the National Stewardship Committee. The PGS is a charitable company owned by participating Dioceses.

It is anticipated that in the next few years more than half of dioceses will be using the scheme. It could be processing annual donations of over £50 million, from around 70,000 donors, and claiming more than £10 million each year in Gift Aid.

If this scheme becomes the principal funding method for your Church, you will have inflation-proofed your giving, maximized your cash-flow and minimised your administration. This will free up your parish to focus on other important priorities.

The Parish Giving Scheme (PGS) is a 21st century solution to offset one of the greatest threats to parish income which is static giving. Donations made through this scheme use a Direct Debit. This can be made on a monthly, quarterly or annual basis. Each donation is restricted to a parish church.

Standing Order
Regular giving (pledging)  by standing order may be more suitable for some folks as it still allows us to plan future ministries and activities, with confidence. Please fill in the standing order form and return to the Treasurer.
On a Sunday
It is not our practice to pass around a colection plate.
There is an open plate collection at the Sunday services, please use the giving envelopes available as they allow us to reclaim the Gift Aid if you are a UK Tax payer.
Tax Efficient Giving
If you pay UK tax (Income or Capital Gains Tax) and would like us to be able to claim back the basic rate tax, please fill in, sign and return to us (at the address below) an ongoing Gift Aid declaration. The benefit to St. James' is that it can recover the basic rate of income tax, currently 25p for each pound given. (If you pay higher rate tax, you may recover this through your own tax return.)
If you have any questions on these or other ways of giving, please contact the Treasurer  via This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it. or at:
